Message: “The Not-So-Secret-Sauce of Paul’s Evangelism (1 Corinthians 2:1-5)” from Pastor Rod Gomez

A message from the series "1 Corinthians." Ever feel weak, fearful, and trembling when it comes to sharing your faith? So did Paul. And the plot twist: Paul chose this. He came to Corinth “in weakness and in fear and much trembling,” with no impressive speeches, just the message of Jesus Christ and him crucified. Yet can you believe this?: God used him to save people and build a church! In 1 Corinthians 2:1–5 we see that the not-so-secret sauce of evangelism is God’s power, not ours. Your job is to go, speak plainly, point to Christ, and trust the Spirit to do what only he can do. Let’s go!!

Message: “What’s The Big Deal About Being In Christ? (1 Corinthians 1:30-31)” from Pastor PJ Berner

A message from the series "1 Corinthians." Do you remember picking teams in elementary school? There was always that one kid you knew—if he was on your team, you were going to win. You were so confident that you might start boasting about the victory before the game even started. When we come to our next passage in 1 Corinthians, we find that God has designed our salvation so that everything we need is found in Christ. He is our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. There’s nothing left for us to boast about except Him. What do you need besides Jesus? Nothing.

Message: “Your Story, God’s Glory (1 Corinthians 1:26-29)” from Pastor PJ Berner

A message from the series "1 Corinthians." What does your life story say about God’s glory? That’s the subject of our next section of 1 Corinthians. Paul is going to unpack what it means that “the foolishness of God is wiser than men and the weakness of God is stronger than men” by asking the Corinthians to consider their own stories of salvation. Why did God choose people like them? Why does He choose people like us? No matter who you are, if you’re in Christ, your story is for His glory.

Message: “The Foolishness of God (1 Corinthians 1:21-25)” from Pastor PJ Berner

A message from the series "1 Corinthians." As we continue our series in 1 Corinthians, we pick up Paul’s argument contrasting the wisdom of God with the wisdom of the world. In 1 Corinthians 1:21–25, Paul’s going to show us that God’s playing chess while the world is playing checkers. As we unpack this next passage, we will see why we can confidently trust that God’s way is always better.

Message: “Why Unbelievers Won’t Listen (1 Corinthians 1:18-20)” from Pastor Rod Gomez

A message from the series "1 Corinthians." In the first century, a crucified Messiah wasn’t a sentimental image placed on a gold necklace or a Christian greeting card. It was scandalous and distasteful. The cross was an instrument of public shame, and a message built on one sounded foolish to a sophisticated world. Has much changed? The problem begins when Christians are tempted to dress up the message to make it more palatable, powerful, and socially credible; to give it a “glow up.” But Paul warns that using worldly wisdom to present the gospel can actually empty it of its power. Worse, the wisdom we are tempted to borrow is itself bankrupt and passing away. In this sermon we look at why the “word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

Message: “Fight Together (1 Corinthians 1:10-17)” from Pastor PJ Berner

A message from the series "1 Corinthians." The Corinthian church was divided into factions all wanting to advance their own cause or to elevate themselves over their brothers and sisters in Christ instead of focusing on the real task of the church, advancing the gospel. If the gospel is going to remain central, unity is essential. As we continue to see what a healthy church looks like we’re going to find that a healthy church is a united church. There’s too much at stake in the spiritual battle around us for us to get sidetracked fighting with each other.

Message: “Where Is Your Boast? (1 Corinthians 1:4-9)” from Pastor PJ Berner

A message from the series "1 Corinthians." When most Christians think about God’s grace, they probably think about salvation, and that makes total sense. However, we risk falling prey to thinking we somehow leave God’s grace behind after salvation. The Corinthians were in danger of doing just that. They had grown arrogant and were boasting in their gifts and status, forgetting that it was God who had provided it all to begin with. In response to their pride, Paul gave thanks for the grace of God, that robbed them of their boasting and put His glory on full display.

Message: “What is the Church? (1 Corinthians 1:1-3)” from Pastor PJ Berner

A message from the series "1 Corinthians." In 1 Corinthians 1:1-3, Paul defines a healthy church. It’s a community that belongs to God, it’s a community that consists of those sanctified in Christ, and it’s a community called to live in holy submission to Christ as Lord. This opening passage provides a framework for the rest of the book, as 1 Corinthians unpacks the picture of a church that belongs to God and to one another. It’s my prayer that God will use this study of 1 Corinthians to make us a stronger, healthier, and more effective church as he continues to do work here in North Texas.
