In 1 Peter 4:12–16, Peter confronts us with the reality that suffering is not only normative and expected, but also a source of deep comfort for those who are truly following Christ in a Christless world. God has given you and me a countercultural mission—so if there’s no “counter” from the culture, it may be time to reexamine whether we’re really on mission.
